Dutch bookkeeping review
Have your bookkeeping checked. Know where you stand.
Your records are up to date and your accounting software shows a profit. But do the figures reconcile? Have expenses, investments and VAT been recorded correctly? I take a closer look, explain what needs attention and help you make practical improvements.
More than checking whether everything was entered
Complete data entry is a useful starting point, but it does not establish that the accounting treatment is right. An invoice may have been posted to the wrong account, a payment recorded twice or a business expense partly used privately.
A bookkeeping review looks at the connection between entries, supporting documents and tax returns. We agree beforehand on the period and areas to be reviewed. Your existing accounting software is the starting point; changing software is not automatically necessary.
What the review can cover
The scope depends on your business, the volume of records and the questions you have. Common areas include:
- Reconciling bank accounts, cash, unpaid invoices and clearing accounts.
- Checking the treatment of sales, costs, investments and private use.
- Reviewing VAT codes, return categories and the connection with submitted VAT returns.
- Checking support for balance sheet items and the link to annual figures.
- Identifying unexplained differences, missing documents and unusual entries.
Clear findings and practical next steps
You receive understandable explanations of the main findings: what is in order, what needs clarification and which corrections or improvements are needed. We agree who will carry out those actions and what is included in the engagement.
Support can be a one-off review or an ongoing arrangement, including alongside work you or another bookkeeper already perform. The aim is not another dashboard, but records you can use with confidence.
Support as your business develops
You may keep your own books, want to understand your existing accounts better or need another pair of eyes before your annual figures and returns are completed. We first establish whether a targeted review is sufficient or whether further support is needed.
Based in Heemstede, I support self-employed business owners in Haarlem and the surrounding area, as well as remotely. We discuss secure document sharing during the initial conversation. Use the public contact form only for your question, not for tax returns, your citizen service number or login details.
Frequently asked questions
Can I continue using my current accounting software?
Yes, that is the starting point. We first review how your records are organised and what information is available. We discuss another approach only when there is a practical reason to do so.
Is this the same as an audit?
No. This is an agreed review and support service for your bookkeeping. It does not provide an audit opinion or assurance. The scope is agreed before work begins.
Can you help correct the issues found?
We agree on that separately. You can carry out improvements yourself or ask for help with corrections and reconciliations. The review and any additional work have a clearly defined scope.
How much does a bookkeeping review cost?
That depends on the volume, the period and the condition of your records. After the initial conversation, we agree on the work required and the fee.
Would you like to know whether your records are in order?
Tell me which accounting software you use, which period you want to discuss and what is unclear. We can then decide what kind of review would be useful.
